Mini Q&A | Kate O'Keeffe + Melissa Baldwin

Normally, when I do an author interview, it’s with one author. I have this big list of questions, and we chat all about their books, what they like to read, writing struggles, etc. This interview is a bit different, and I totally love it! Two of my favorite authors (and humans), Melissa Baldwin and Kate O’Keeffe, decided to write a story together, and as part of their blog tour with (shameless plug coming) Karan & Co. Author Solutions, we decided to do a one-question joint Q&A. Here’s mine! And I totally cheated and made it a two-part question. *pats self on back* Also, you can read their full Q&As here (Melissa) and here (Kate).

Q: What was the best thing about co-writing One Way Ticket?

Melissa: Do I have to pick just one thing? Co-writing One Way Ticket was a wonderful experience. I loved bringing our characters, Addi and Sabrina, to life. I also loved being able to share ideas with Kate.  I learned so much from her, and I hope to have the opportunity to work together again in the future.

Kate: Melissa is right, it was a wonderful experience writing One Way Ticket with her. We bounced ideas off each other the whole way through the process, we worked at the same rate, we critiqued one another’s work chapter by chapter. Writing is such a solitary pursuit for me, so it was amazing to get to share it with Melissa. And we will do it again sometime soon!

Q: What was the most difficult thing about co-writing One Way Ticket?

Melissa: The only difficult thing I can think of while writing this book was the distance and the time zone difference. Luckily, Kate and I set up a great system to share our work with each other.

Kate: It would have been so much easier if we lived in the same time zone or even the same city. I can see our work sessions now, discussing plot ideas over cake in a café somewhere. But, we set up a private Facebook group to communicate and even video chatted over it at times. It worked really well, but it would have been nice to have been able to meet face-to-face. Maybe Melissa should move to New Zealand??

Ladies, thanks for stopping by! And Melissa, if you move to New Zealand, can I come too?
