My Review

Disclaimer: I received complementary pre-publication copies of the below books and am voluntarily leaving a review. I have purchased a copy of the full set so I can continue reading and update this review with a mini review for each story included.

Due to my insanely busy schedule, shorter stories keep my bookworm cravings to a minimum as I’m able to devour them in an hour or two. When the opportunity arose to review a handful of the stories in this set, I jumped!

Hold ‘Em is the first book I’ve read by Jacquie Biggar as well as the first in the Luck of the Draw: 13 Romance & Suspense Novellas collection. I actually had my iPhone read Hold ‘Em to me, and despite the robotic voice, I very much enjoyed it. Taking one for the team and cleaning up your father’s mess has to be stressful. Add in finding your Mr. Right when you’re already committed to Mr. Good Enough and I probably would have figured out how to escape. I’m looking forward to reading more by Jacquie and hope she expands on this story with Cass and Matt. I’d love to see more about Sophia and Tony too!

Next up was Fade into Love by Michele Shriver, and I totally loved it! As I was thinking of what to write that wouldn’t spoil anything (#saynotospoilers), it popped into my head that Wren was a lot more courageous that I was in college. I stopped to think about that, and it dawned on me that I was too, but in a different way. (Thank you for sparking that realization, Michele!!) If you’re looking for a quick read that gives you a peek into the day-to-day of a movie production, a senior in college, and a budding new romance merging two completely different worlds, you’re in for a treat with this one. Grabbing a copy of Michele’s related story right now!!

Sometimes You Win by Stacy Eaton was an adorable story of unexpected luck and something we wish would happen to all of us. Taking a chance on the near impossible could result in exactly what you need. I quickly fell into step with the characters and was ecstatic to see the story will be continued!

The fourth story I read was Maybe, Baby by Lyssa Layne. As with the rest, I had my iPhone read to me while on my commute. I’m not sure if that caused the confusion, but it wasn’t until the end of the story that I realized the beginning wasn’t about the same couple that a bulk of the story was about. Despite my head not working correctly, the story was a wonderful read, and I’ll be looking at Lyssa’s backlist very soon!

Stay tuned for mini reviews of the rest of the stories on the next few #ShortStorySaturdays!!!
