This week’s In the Spotlight author is Aussie author Michelle Dennis! Michelle and I met through another Australian author and I’m so happy that we did! Michelle is as sweet as can be and I’m ecstatic that she wanted to stop by today for her blog tour! (Visit the tour page and check out the other posts!)

About Michelle Dennis

Michelle Dennis lives in Perth, Western Australia; she has always loved reading and in the past few years this love has expanded into creating her own written words and worlds.

Michelle has a love of medieval and fantasy creatures, and her first book, Wolfbaene, revolves around this theme and brings the world of knights, castles and dragons to children around the world.

Michelle is a devoted wife and mother, and fits her writing schedule in around her busy lifestyle. Michelle shares her home with a very mature Dachshund named Phoebe Rose, and a whole bunch of cats who are under the impression they are the owners of Michelle's home.

She is currently working on a sequel to Wolfbaene, and when she's not in the world of dragons and other mythical beings, she can be found listening attentively to the other characters in her head, who are shouting for her attention.

About Michelle as an author

What inspired you to write your first book?

When we moved to a new suburb in the outskirts of Perth, surrounded by a gorgeous pine forest and wineries – the imagination I had as a young girl began to emerge. My silly comments of dragons and fairies living in the forest became a story and I eventually began to write it all down. Wolfbaene, my first novel, was born.

What genre do you consider your books?

Infinite Completion & Absolution is a Contemporary Romance series. Wolfbaene is Children’s Fantasy.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I have been told my writing style is clean and a little fast paced, with bursts of wistfulness and romance.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Grade 1 as I sat on the mat in class listening to my teacher read to us.

What is your favourite scene that you’ve written?

I can’t really pick my favourite scene – but the hardest scene is definitely the first sex scene in Absolution (*gigglesnort!)

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Read a lot, write outdoors sometimes and don’t give up.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I love your support – thank you so much!

How do you beat writer’s block?

Sit outside with a notepad and meditate.

Are any of your characters are based on you?

Nope, they’re much smarter!

About Michelle’s upcoming release, ABSOLUTION

How did you come up with the title?

It’s what my character most needs in life

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Men need to be kinder to themselves.

How much of the book is realistic?

Completely fictional.

About Michelle as a reader

What books have most influenced your life most?

This is so hard! My early childhood years were influenced by books like What Katie Did, Peter Pan and Paddington Bear (anything adventurous), and in my ‘Terrible Teens’ I loved books like Great Expectations, Room With A View and turn-of-the-century classics. Now, my writing is influenced more by real life, but I do love a great soppy romance!

What book are you reading now?

The Obsession – Nora Roberts (I love her stuff)

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

Rebecca Raisin (although she’s not really new anymore), Demelza Carlton, Anna Hub, Emmy Brand, Linda Perie – all great new Aussie authors

Because Karan is random

Which question are you most sick of answering in interviews?

None! I love interviews and sharing with my readers.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I feel very blessed to have been given this tour opportunity and love “meeting” my readers and other authors.
