Miss Chick Lit 2015

Hi, I’m Becky Jordan and I’m here today representing beautiful England! The home of Chick Lit! <smiles, waves, blows a kiss> I love being English! Not only do we have a royal family, and a very cool flag, but we also have so much history . . . a bit like me! <winks>I’m a thirty-one year old travel lecturer, which I’m really excited about—being a travel lecturer, I mean; not being thirty-one. I love it! What’s not to love about travel? And it helps, of course, that I’ve got the most amazing boss . . . <pauses, blushes>I also love cappuccino, shoes that fit, and movies that make you cry. Not the sad-cry movies, though. Only the happy-cry ones, with maybe a bit of sad in the middle but they have to have a happy ending. Because, well, that’s what we all want, right? Our own happy ending.

What is your dream?

English_ChannelMy dream is to swim the English Channel to raise money for the starving children in Africa. No child should ever have to starve. I just want to cry when I see their big sad eyes all over those UNICEF ads. I really want to help them and, y’know, I’ve been swimming laps at the local pool so I’m hoping the English Channel shouldn’t be too much bother. And there’s French wine at the other side, which should be a good incentive for me. I just need to get over this unaccountable fear of water I’ve recently developed . . .

<shakes self, straightens shoulders, smiles> But I’m sure I can do it. I’ll do it for the children.

Swimsuit Competition

Bikini<shimmies out of dress, revealing swimsuit>

I chose this bikini combo because it’s cute, it makes my pale English rose skin look good (well, as good as it can look), and I just love the little tassels because they’re perfect on curvy hips.

And if I swim the English Channel in it, the tassels should distract the fish from wanting to eat my toes. <looks stricken> Do you think there are sharks in the English Channel?

Do you have any special talents?

colored-marshmallows_shannon-mccookI do, actually! I can stuff a whole packet of marshmallows in my mouth at once. Look! <whips out bag of marshmallows, demonstrates>

“Shee? I cam ebem kalk wick gem im my moukh!”

<turns away, empties mouth, turns back, giggles> “I had to practise that trick for such a long time. Why would anyone want to do that? I don’t know. Because they can?” <giggles, shrugs>

One Final Question – Have you ever altered your appearance cosmetically or otherwise? Would you?

No, I haven’t . . . and I wouldn’t. This is all about loving ourselves as we are, right?

<giggles, looks over shoulder, lowers voice>

Well. The truth is, I might do something. I mean, I’m in my thirties now, and have you noticed how everything starts to head south as you get older? I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about shoving silicon or poison into my body, but maybe sucking stuff out would be okay . . .

<smiles> Gran always said to me, “In your mouth for a moment, on your hips for a lifetime.” <sighs> I should’ve listened to her. I’ve always been a sucker for a doughnut.

You can be a Beauty Queen too!!!
