Native New Yorker and romance author Sharon Callender is a card carrying member of the hopeless romantic club. She starting reading romance novels way too young and has been addicted ever since. Sharon enjoys crafting characters that are unraveled by love. Their predictable lives are thrown into beautiful, passionate chaos when love unexpectedly arrives.
Sharon has a MFA in Creative Writing and loves writing romance with a delicious blend of spicy and sweet, a sprinkling of suspense and adventure, and of course, a happy ending. When she’s not writing Sharon can be found daydreaming, knitting, or watching one of the home shopping channels.
Why do you write? How long have you been writing?
I write because it is a frustrating and rewarding process that I can’t seem to live without. Getting a scene just right or creating beautiful imagery in a poem are moments sweeter than chocolate, and just as addicting to me. Writing also keeps me sane! I have all these characters floating around in my head, vying for my attention. If I don’t give them a home on the page, they make me restless until I do!
I started journaling/writing when I was six. I chronicled every life event in my Hello Kitty journal. But I fell in love with writing and reading in the second grade. Our class worked with a writer in residence who helped each of us find our voice through poetry. He taught us how to create poems based on life experiences, nature, and the world around us.
Tell us a bit about your current project(s).
My contemporary romantic suspense novel, No One to Trust, published by Liquid Silver Books was released this month. It’s set in the art world of New York City. Jenna Havilland is a thirty-something career driven personal assistant to an eccentric millionaire artist, who becomes the target of a dangerous international art crime ring. She is forced into the crosshairs of a deadly storm and reluctantly captures the attention of notorious playboy and fine art management firm executive, Alex Quinlan, who is determined to protect her.
What genres do you write? Which do you read?
I mainly write contemporary romance. I also write YA.
I read all genres of romance, literary fiction and YA. I’m a huge fan of the YA Dystopian genre (Divergent & Hunger Games Trilogy).
Do you self-pub, have a publisher or both?
Is there anything special you’ve got going on right now (or in the near future) that we should know about? Promotions, sales, etc?
No One to Trust is currently available from Liquid Silver Books as well as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. My YA Sierra Moon (a romantic/action adventure time travel story) is available on the Barnes & Noble website.
Any advice to aspiring authors?
Carve out time to write every day, even if it’s for ten minutes. Never stop believing in yourself or your dreams. Be insanely persistent.
