When home no longer feels like home - where can you go? When your best friend won’t listen - who can you turn to? When love makes you feel weak - how do you protect your heart?

With constant fighting at home, Emma decides working at High Street Books and practicing avoidance is the best method to save her from more heartache. She doesn’t expect to meet Jake, the shop owner’s nephew, who makes her stomach do crazy things. But Jake is intent on pushing her away, and Emma must ask herself: Is he scared? Or is he hiding something?

Tastes Like Winter is a story of love, family, and friendship and, when everything is uncertain, trying to figure out where you fit in.

Hi. My name is Karan, I’m 33 and I read YA novels. Today’s second post is my review of Cece Carroll’s debut novel, Tastes Like Winter, which was just released on Tuesday! Congrats Cece!! I was captivated from page one. Cece did an amazing job depicting the detail of Emma’s flashback dream. A daughter being pushed on a swing and laughing with her mother. What’s not to love about that on it’s own?

Tastes Like Winter was a quick read under 200 pages but it wasn’t lacking. Watching Emma quickly learn the ropes of the bookstore and deal with the pain of seeing her parents fighting was enough to make anyone feel what she was. Add the attention of a new boy and you’ll know exactly how she felt. I’ll keep this short so early spoilers are avoided.

Cece, well done on an amazing story! I can’t wait to see what’s next!!! 🙂
