Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.

I always hate starting a review with “It took me a bit to get into this story.” but sometimes that is inevitable. This story is not to blame, nor the author. Every author has a different writing style and once you get used to it, all is good. Amber Hart’s Before You falls into this category for me. I was in the middle of a book hangover and also dealing with an injury when I started reading Before You. My fault. Not Amber’s, not Faith or Diego’s or the other characters’. Once I had a clear(er) head, I was sucked in. Now for my review…

I’m not 18 anymore (ha!) but I do remember high school. I don’t miss it. I shudder at the thought of the cliques. Ohhh wait. Those still exist in my 30s. In the words of Bliss-Blogger-Kyle…blerg.

Faith Watters has been through more than the average high school student yet she hides it from 99% of the people in her life. She thinks she has to. Her dad is a pastor. Then she meets Diego. Diego has as many, if not more, reasons for his hard shell. Over time, as they do the push and pull of a new friendship/relationship, we see more of why each are that way and begin to see cracks appears in their thick exteriors.

We see the points of view (point of views?) of Faith and Diego in alternating chapters. I’m really starting to like this p.o.v. switch-a-roo! Keeps me on my toes. By the end (hell, even by the middle of the book) there was no way I was putting the Paperwhite down. I HAD to know how the story ended. I won’t say much else because I risk entering the spoiler zone, but this is another that you’ll need a tissue for. How do I keep finding these books? I don’t think I’ve cried this much ever! I’m going to start supplying virtual tissues just so you have them in advance.

I’m very excited to see how the story continues! After Us (Before & After #2) is expected to release on December 30, 2014. Hello Precious Bliss participated in the cover reveal in June. Head over here to see the After Us cover and read an excerpt!

Thank you Amber and K-Teen for a fascinating story. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!!
